I remember when I first started college a couple years ago. Those early morning classes were killers! If you didn't like coffee, you drank it anyway, at least if you cared enough to not waste your parents' money by sleeping in class. Of course, just starting out in college, things got tough from time to time, financially anyhow. On those tough mornings, we would stand up at the cappuccino machine waiting for people to stop by to purchase a 40 cent cup of coffee and ask for the change! It didn't take a whole lot of pride-trust me. But, you did what you had to do for that early morning jolt of energy.
Now, when I'm grabbing a Coke or something at a vending machine, I leave the change in the tray. Hey, quite a few times I've enjoyed my coffee this way.
The reality of it is this: It is so easy to be a giver.
You don't have to give a million dollars to a charity to be considered generous in God's eyes, you just have to give with the right motives. Don't give to receive, even though you will receive. Instead give out of the realization that everything you have was given to you, so it is only honorable for you to give as well.
"Oh, I work hard for my money, Quincy. No one gave me anything!"
Really? Just like you work hard for the air you breathe, right? We all have to work to achieve in life, that's a given. But it is only by God's grace that we have what we have. If we can understand this simple principle, we are on the right track to living a fulfilled life.
